FRUITIVE: ARE THESE HEALTHY SMOOTHIES WORTH THE STEEP PRICE TAG?

The Cost - $12 per person (1 smoothie each)

The Atmosphere – Fruitive’s City Center location is convenient for those on a shopping spree, working in downtown DC, or visiting Capital One Arena. It’s not super convenient if you are looking for a place to sit and relax though. With very limited seating, you need to expect to take your smoothie to go.

Milkshakes and smoothies have been popular for a long time but in the last few years we have seen a big rise in the popularity of juices and smoothies that are made with just a few, high quality, natural or organic ingredients. One of the DC area’s most well known plant based, organic food and drink establishments is Fruitive (@fruitive) with its menu of healthy juices, smoothies, snacks and casual meals.

The Order - The Order - 16 oz. (Small size) Peaches and Greens, Wellness Warrior, and Dream Date “Liquid Meals.”

The Good - The Peaches and Greens, made with almond milk, orange juice, kale, peaches, bananas and spinach, was tasty and was my favorite of the three. Close behind was the Dream Date, a blend of oat milk, bananas, peanut butter, dates and vanilla extract. The dream date was much thicker and heavier though and felt more like a post workout smoothie.

The Not So Good - The Wellness Warrior was the smoothie I thought I would like the most being that it had some of my favorite ingredients - oat milk, bananas, açaí and blueberries - as well as strawberries and apple juice. However, I didn’t love the resulting taste and didn’t really taste much of the açaí and bananas.

The Verdict - You have got to really impress me if you are asking me to pay a minimum of $12 for a small smoothie and unfortunately, Fruitive did not. While I applaud the effort to use organic and fresh ingredients and to help people live a healthier lifestyle. I don’t think these liquid meals are a great value.
